Cloth vs Disposable
I am having a dilemma of sorts. As you know my little Godchild will be born at the end of March. The mom (my friend) is on a tight budget and is contemplating the two options. Having had a child, I know how much it costs to use disposables. But, after some research, I am finding that good cloth diapers are expensive too.
So my question to you is.....would it be cost effective to cloth diaper? And does anyone make their own? I have considered making some if it is not too costly.
So.....give me your comments please!!!! I could use them.
Thanks

Don't know if you will ever see this comment considering it's on an older post... but I use cloth and disposable.
I like cloth much better, and use it exclusively at home. I also use cloth when I am running errands and not leaving the baby with a sitter. I primarily use disposables if I need to catch up on diaper laundry or I'm leaving my daughter in a nursury or at a sitter.
The beauty of cloth is that it can be as simple and cheep or complex and expensive as you want. I have several combinations I utilize when diapering.
Sometimes I use just prefolds with a snappi and a wool diaper soaker. I have one or two "whisper wraps" and really love those. I have some AIO, some pocket diapers with wraps, and some home made diapers. I made several myself and the best DIY pattern I found is the PooPocket Diaper.
You can also go to sites like DiaperSwapper to find good used diapers and advice on different diapers.
I love cloth. I don't find it to add that much more to my normal laundry load. And the newer diapers are so much better than the old fashioned pin on diapers. Yes.... if you get carried away with all the cute designs and fabrics out there it can get expensive.
But when you compare that once up front cost to the long term continual purchase of disposables it is by far cheaper.
And you don't have to pay out so much at once for them. You can start your stash now, purchase 2 or 3 at a time, and make it easier to fit into your budget.
Sorry this was so long.. but hope it helps.
